If the place is good enough for Andy, Opie, Aunt Bea and Barney, it's good enough for me. The place dates back to 1923 and Andy Griffith used to hang out there as a kid.

They're famous for their pork sandwich, in fact that's how it's listed on the menu, the "Famous Pork Chop Sandwich," a huge pork cutlet, batter dipped, pan fried and loaded with tomato, chopped onion, cole slaw and mustard. *** fine eatin', be it in Mayberry RFD or on Main Street Mount Airy.

Also on the menu are hamburgers and cheeseburgers, served breaded or regular. "Breaded dates back to depression days," my waitress told me, "when a lot of folks around here mixed bread in with the hamburger to make it go further. I like it, tastes like meatloaf."
