H & R SWEET SHOOP

102 Royall Ave
Mount Pleasant
(843) 884-2118

It's a Friday tradition in the Low Country. Red Rice and Fish. My cab drive told that the best place for Red Rice and Fish is the H & R Sweet Shop in old Mount Pleasant.
It's actually the H&R Sweet Shop and Beauty Parlor. They are side by side and there's a door between them in case a customer needs a snack before going under the hair dryer.
Red rice is a Gullah version of Dirty Rice. The red comes from tomatoes. Chunks of Sausage, diced bell pepper and onion too. The fish is fried whiting. A few fried unshelled tiny shrimp along side.
If it's not Friday, go for the hamburger. Solid eating. Or for supper, the fried fish, shrimp or chicken.
