The
Stamey family started barbecuing in Lexington. Can't ask
for more authoritative heritage than that. Opened up
Stamey's in Greensboro back in 1930.
That's
the arched-roof, smoke-filled pit room to the far right. As
majestic a pit room as you'll ever see. At least 8
pits. All cooking shoulders. The fire is
started in a box out side and transferred by a very long
handled shovel to each pit. Takes 9-10 hours to get
the shoulders just right.
Stamey's
serves their pork sandwich Lexington style, topped with
red slaw.
