Everyone says Cafe
Freret has the second best muffuletta. My respect
for tradition makes me want to agree. After all
Central Grocery invented the sandwich back in 1906.
My sense of taste isn't so sure. Cafe Freret
builds one damn good muffuletta. Motadella ham,
genoa salami and provolone, intermixed with their
homemade olive salad on a specially backed, round,
muffuletta roll. Available in both small and large
sizes, an average Holly can handle half a small size.
Another specialty
is their half pound voodoo burger garnished/stabbed with
a steak knife and topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms,
provolone, lettuce, tomato, pickles, Creole mayonnaise
and bomb sauce.
For dessert, bread
pudding. To go. Kinda full here.
Great hospitality.
The chef/owner had great po boy and fried chicken places
I had to try. He called around to friends and
family trying to come up with names.
The hospitality
extends to dogs, too. Full place settings for a
kennel-full. |
